Interest in returning to Latvia continues to remain strong. During the first six months of 2026, 61 people relocated to the Zemgale region with the support of the Zemgale Planning Region’s Remigration Coordinator. The majority of returnees came from the United Kingdom, Germany, and Ireland.
To support Latvians living abroad in making informed decisions about returning home, the Remigration Coordinator prepared 164 personalised relocation plans during the first half of the year. Each plan is tailored to the individual’s needs and provides practical information on housing opportunities, education, employment prospects, and business start-up support—key aspects of a successful relocation process.
According to Anete Briņeca, Remigration Coordinator at the Zemgale Planning Region, interest in returning remains high despite the geopolitical uncertainty currently affecting Europe.
“People considering a return to Latvia are motivated by the opportunity to be closer to their families, provide their children with education in the Latvian language, enjoy a safer and more peaceful living environment, and benefit from the flexibility of remote work or opportunities to develop their own businesses,” says Anete Briņeca.
Experience shows that successful remigration requires comprehensive support. In addition to information about employment and housing, returnees often need assistance with administrative procedures and guidance during the adaptation process.
Alongside individual consultations, the Remigration Coordinator has continued to strengthen cooperation with national institutions, municipalities, and other planning regions by participating in working groups, seminars, and sector development initiatives. This collaborative approach helps ensure that prospective returnees receive up-to-date information and that remigration support services continue to improve.
A new national remigration website, www.remigracija.lv, has also recently been launched. The website serves as a central source of information on returning to Latvia, offering practical guidance, information about the support provided by regional remigration coordinators, research findings, statistical data, and inspiring stories from Latvians who have already returned. Visitors can also contact the remigration coordinator for their chosen region directly through the website to receive personalised advice and support throughout the relocation process.
