The children’s and youth creative works competition “Wake Up with Nature!”, organised by the Latgale Planning Region, has concluded. The competition was held within the framework of the European Commission’s LIFE Programme project LIFE OSMO BALTIC and remigration support activities, with the aim of promoting children’s and young people’s understanding of natural processes, Latvian traditions, and a sustainable lifestyle, while also strengthening the link between families in Latvia and the diaspora.
The competition took place from 10 April to 8 May 2026. In total, 79 creative works by children and young people were received — drawings, photographs, and videos — which were published on the Facebook page “Es atgriežos Latgalē” and made available for public voting. In their works, the participants reflected springtime processes in nature, creative activities, and participation in cleaning up their surroundings.
The Latgale Planning Region awarded the winners of the competition by presenting them with creative and educational prizes. Visits to the winners took place in a warm and inspiring atmosphere, bringing genuine joy to the children. Inese Gasparoviča, teacher of Form 4A at Daugavpils Draudzīgā aicinājuma Secondary School, whose pupils won first place, noted that both she and her pupils are pleased with the high recognition given to their spring-themed video story and are grateful to the organisers for the opportunity to take part in such competitions.
The Latgale Planning Region extends its sincere thanks to teachers and parents for their enthusiasm and support in encouraging children’s participation in the competition — thanks to you, the children were able to successfully bring their creative ideas to life!
